Hughesville PA

History
In 1816, Jeptha Hughes bought land and laid out a town which he called Hughesburg. The community grew after a grist mill was built. A general store served the needs of local residents commencing in 1828. In general, the town primarily served the needs of area farmers working the land in eastern Lycoming County. However, the settlement also attracted a chair factory, sawmill and a number of distilleries. Both running water and electricity arrived in 1891.
Parks and Recreation
Lycoming County offers a number of state parks and forests in which residents can hunt, fish and hike. One is Little Pine State Park, which is in a beautiful mountainous portion of the large Tiadaghton State Forest. A sandy beach is available, and this Waterville-area park also includes a modern playground and a volleyball court. The changing seasons can be enjoyed by hikers traversing the trials that wind their way through the park.
There's also Ravensburg State Park, a 78-acre park. Dramatic scenery is a part of the experience because of the steep walls lining the gorge in which the Jersey Shore-area park is located. The scenery in both the spring and fall is especially stunning.
