Hughesville, Pennsylvania, is a community near Williamsport in the north central part of the state. The Lycoming County town is home to approximately 2,000 individuals.

History

In 1816, Jeptha Hughes bought land and laid out a town which he called Hughesburg. The community grew after a grist mill was built. A general store served the needs of local residents commencing in 1828. In general, the town primarily served the needs of area farmers working the land in eastern Lycoming County. However, the settlement also attracted a chair factory, sawmill and a number of distilleries. Both running water and electricity arrived in 1891.
