Montgomery Borough is part of Lycoming County. It was incorporated in 1887. A prominent farmer, Robert Montgomery, gave land to the railroad station and his name to the community. Although its early industry was based on grist and saw mills, Montgomery came to be known for its furniture manufacturers.
